What drives the price
The two biggest factors are time on the job and distance. Van size, the number of helpers, stairs or lift access, packaging and the date (weekends, evenings and the end of the month are busier) all push the figure up or down.
How providers usually quote
Most quote an hourly rate with a minimum number of hours, or a fixed price when the job is well described. Watch for what sits outside the headline rate: waiting time, congestion and parking, tolls and mileage beyond an agreed limit.
How to get an accurate quote
Describe the load, give both postcodes, and mention floors, lift access and parking. Flag anything fragile, oversized or heavy. The more the provider knows up front, the less the price moves on the day.
How to compare quotes
Compare what is included, not just the number: help with loading, fuel and mileage, and insurance cover. A slightly higher rate that includes a second person can work out cheaper than a low rate plus extras.
